As Dad stepped up to the checkout line, Linda, the cashier, was more interested in her phone than the customer in front of her. She scrolled through her social media, barely acknowledging our presence. "Hi, Linda," I said, trying to grab her attention. She flicked her gaze momentarily toward us, her fingers never stopping their constant swiping. Dad carefully placed our items on the counter, his usual warm smile ready, though it seemed lost on her distracted demeanor. Linda's inattentiveness was pretty frustrating.
